In such a rich territory, so close to the Stelvio and Adamello-Brenta Natural Parks, there is obviously plenty to do for everyone. There are lots of activities, from the more peaceful suitable for all to the more trying for trained experts.
Below are just a few ideas of the things to do in summer that are most popular with families.
This summer we again offer 2 weekly guided hikes (on Tuesdays and Thursdays), included in the hotel rate, which are in addition to the paid hikes organized by the resort and the countless hikes that you can take on your own and that we can recommend taking into account your fitness level and family composition.
Tuesday
After an easy walk, we will visit together the interior of the Forte Zaccarana (Austrian fort dating back to World War I), discovering the tunnels and meanders of the old post; we will then continue to the Strino barracks (downhill), finally reaching the Forte Strino (now a museum) with a guided tour. From here we will return to the hotel by regular bus.
THURSDAY’
Slightly more challenging hike to reach the refuge “Al Mandrone” starting from the top of the Presena glacier (3,079 mslm), which we will reach by cable car (free for our guests using the Val di Sole Guest Card).
We will descend to Dark Lake and then down to the hut, admiring the Pian di Neve glacier and the Vedretta del Mandrone with its crevasses and waterfalls formed by meltwater from the glacier (sad proof of global warming…).
After lunch we will return to the Presena summit.
The Tonale Pass is the perfect starting place for a number of excursions.
Both southwards, in the Adamello-Brenta Park (towards the Adamello and Presanello glaciers and the many mountains reaching above 3,000 metres), and northwards, in the Stelvio National Park.
There is also a wide choice for mountaineering, accompanied by Alpine guides, including some via ferrata, the famous “gangways of the path of flowers”, excursions on the glaciers, and the rock-climbing gyms.
Without forgetting the history here, with the rediscovery of the places of the First World War, and natural interests such as the local flora and fauna.
In the hotel, Bicycle tourists and MTBenthusiasts can find a repairs workshop, bike storage with an area for washing, information, itineraries and contact information for hirers and the MTB school.
There are also plenty of tracks: on the slopes of the Val Camonica, the Adamello Mountain Bike Arena boasts 18 routes of medium difficulty and 2 easy ones, all signposted and mapped for GPS, as well as the new Ponte di Legno-Vezza d’Oglio cycle path (12 km, possibility of return by bus).
On the Trentino slope of the Val di Sole you can find over 20 signposted routes, joined by the cycle path that runs along the banks of the Noce River.
And for the more traditional amongst you, we boast the wonderful itineraries made famous thanks to the various legs of the Giro d’Italia: Passo Gavia Pass, Passo Mortirolo and Passo Stelvio, as well as the Passo del Tonale, Passo Mendola, Passo Palade.
Discover this new walking technique in our organised day trips together with local Nordic walking instructors.
This aerobic activity is ideal for arms and legs, as you embark on relaxing walks in the enchanting environs of the two parks surrounding us.
You can go canyoningin the gorges around the Mostizzolo Bridge and raftingalong the high part of the Noce River, ranked by National Geographic as the best river in Europe and the ninth best in the world for this very sport.
In Ponte di Legno you will find a 9-hole course, open from June to September; a charming location for a very varied course in the small but pleasant Valbione, at 1,600 metres altitude.
