Taking short drives from Tonale you can find several cultural suggestions:


  • "White War" Museums: they tell about the First World War fought on our mountains and glaciers; there are two museums: in Vermiglio (10 km, interesting in combination with visit at the "Strino" fort along the main national road) and in Temù (15 km): selection of war finds, pictures and videos about the three years of fighting between italian and austrian soldiers (1915-'18).
  • Rock Engravings in Capo di Ponte and Naquane (50 km): waling on safe and easy paths, on your own or with a guided tour, discover those UNESCO sites of the prehistoric engraving art of the Camuns, (Iron Age, 1st millennium before Christ), the old population living in the valley taking now their name (valle Camonica).
  • Visitors Area of Stelvio National Park at Pejo (25 km); rangers will give you all explanations about the mountain wild animals you can see in the paddocks (deers, chamois, roe deers, steinbocks, etc)
  • Visitors Area of Adamello-Brenta Park at Sporminore (55 km); rangers will tell you everything about wolves and brown bears hosted in the center and explain the reintroduction program carried on in the Trentino area
  • Hermitage of st. Romedio: (45 km): really suggestive visit, especially taking the short walk along the canioon whom brings to the parking at the base of the rock above the hermitage has been built; nearby you can also visit the Trentino Etnographic Museum.
  • Thun Castle (50 km): built around the XIII century is very well conservated and restored; one of the best example of medium age castles in Trentino.
  • Fondo's gorges: (60 km): it is a canyon digged by the small river "Rio Sass". Since 2001 is possible to dive into the canyon walking along a gangways path, following guides explaining geological history and formation of the gorges and showing their extraordinary beauty. The track is about 1,5 km long (to be done in two ways). For kids is a real adventure with helmets andc raincoats and for adults a discover of an enchanted hidden world of darkness, colorated moss, waterfalls, fossils, light and water play ...
  • For those who would also like to go further on, is also possible to visit another canyon in the same area: Novella River Park (3,5 km), whom allows to visit its valley and canyon through fruit fields, vineyards, old bridges and mills, rocks aged more than milions of years. Beside visiting the canyon you can also go kayaking from the final part of the river, near the St Giustina's artificial lake.
  • "Rotari" cellars at Mezzolombardo (65 km): a pleasant and emotioning guided tour will accompain you to discover the wine cellars and learning about the "Metodo Classico" procedure of making the so famous "brut" (white sparkling wine).
  • To be noted the modern architecture of the cave building: it has a wavy roof which reminds the lines of pergola vines of the nearby vineyards.
  • M.A.R.T.: Modern Art Museum in Rovereto (110 km): permanent and temporary exhibitions, italian and international artists.
  • M.U.S.E: Science Museum in Trento (75km): exhibition of wilderness and plant life since prehistory until today. To help kids to approach to science world the museum provides laboratories, games and miltimedia stations.
  • Bernina express: it starts in Tirano (65 km) and reaches St. Moritz in Swiss, climbing up to the Bernina pass (2.330 s.l.m.), passing by lakes and through UNESCO natural sites (wild mountains and glaciers). Along the 145km of the rail and during the 4 hours journey you can look at peaks and wild nature, eventually sit on the roof of the panoramic wagon. This visit will take the whole day.
